The Project Director, Eng. Abdullah Al Khinjari, stated that the actual completion rate of the project has reached 50%, exceeding the planned progress by more than 20%. He noted that the road is expected to be opened to traffic in the third quarter of 2026.

Eng. Al Khinjari explained that the alternative road project for Wilayat Wadi Bani Khalid in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate is one of the most prominent development projects being implemented by the Ministry in the wilayat. The road will serve as a vital artery that enhances logistics movement and supports the wilayat’s economy. It will also facilitate mobility for residents and users, including school buses and daily commuters, in addition to improving connectivity between villages and service centers, thereby strengthening social ties and supporting routine transportation in line with the development of services in the wilayat.

He added that the new road will contribute to stimulating commercial activity by facilitating the movement of heavy commercial vehicles, as well as boosting tourism due to the wilayat’s well-known tourist attractions. Furthermore, the project will improve road safety, as the new road is safer than the old mountain road in terms of elevation and reduced curves. It will be equipped with various road safety features, including steel and concrete barriers and traffic guidance signage, to enhance the safety of road users.

In a statement to the Oman News Agency (ONA), Al Khinjari noted that the project consists of two lanes, each 3.5 meters wide, with asphalt shoulders measuring 1.5 meters in width, in addition to box culverts and water drainage channels to ensure road safety during rainfall.

He added that the project includes comprehensive road safety requirements, such as concrete and metal barriers, guidance signs, and road markings and warning paints. The project is expected to contribute to improving traffic flow and stimulating urban, tourism, and economic activity in the wilayat.
