Oman Participates in the 29th GCC Ministerial Meeting for Communications and Postal Affairs and the 9th Ministerial Meeting for Digital Government

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), took part in the 29th Meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Communications and Postal Affairs, hosted today by the State of Kuwait. The meeting was attended by H.E. the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Their Excellencies the Ministers of Communications and Postal Affairs of the GCC countries, and specialists from the GCC General Secretariat.
The Omani delegation was headed by H.E. Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, accompanied by a number of officials and specialists from the Ministry and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The committee discussed several key items on its agenda, including the GCC Telecommunications Sector Work Plan (2025–2027) and the Implementation Plan for the GCC Roaming Rate Reduction and eSIM Applications Project. It also reviewed areas of cooperation among GCC states in the field of space and was briefed on joint initiatives, notably the GCC–EU Digital Economy and Innovation Partnership, an initiative by the GCC Secretariat-General aimed at strengthening collaboration in digital transformation, telecommunications, advanced technologies, the digital economy, innovation, and space.
H.E. Al Maawali also participated in the 9th Meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Digital Government, during which the committee discussed several topics on its agenda, including initiatives related to the Unified Gulf Guiding Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and the adoption of the general framework for supporting AI applications in public services across GCC countries. The committee also approved the general framework for the AI-based Climate Prediction and Disaster Management Initiative, proposed by the Sultanate of Oman. Additionally, the committee endorsed the renaming of the Executive Committee for eGovernment to become the Executive Committee for Digital Government.
On the sidelines of the 9th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Digital Government, a ceremony was held for the GCC Digital Government Award. The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) won the award in the “Best Digital Inclusiveness Initiative” category for its “Digital Authorization Service” project. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning received the award for “Best Government Digital Service” for its “Choose Your Land” project, while the Ministry of Health received the award in the “Artificial Intelligence Utilization” category for its “Early Diagnosis System for Diabetic Retinopathy” project.
The GCC Digital Government Award is a distinguished regional initiative that encourages government entities across the Gulf to showcase best practices in providing information and delivering e-services in line with predefined standards aimed at advancing the digital economy and supporting the region’s digital transformation journey.
