The Sultanate of Oman celebrated the International Day of the Seafarer under the theme "We Move Global Trade and Shoulder the Risks." The event highlighted the crucial role of seafarers in supporting global trade, maintaining supply chains, and driving sustainable economic development.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the maritime sector through legislative reforms, international cooperation, digital transformation, and talent development. Key achievements included the issuance of the Maritime Labour Regulation, the signing of a mutual recognition agreement for seafarers’ certificates with the Philippines, the launch of the Oman Maritime Platform, the establishment of Off-Port Limits (OPL) service areas, and the approval of marine environmental protection measures by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The Ministry also highlighted initiatives to develop Omani maritime talent, including training programmes for maritime cooks and marine pilots, supporting employment opportunities and enhancing national expertise in the sector.
