Conclusion of the “Hadatha Sectoral Hackathon” for the Telecommunications Sector

The activities of the “Hadatha Sectoral Hackathon – Telecommunications Sector” concluded today. The hackathon was organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), represented by the National Cybersecurity Center, in strategic partnership with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Omar bin Hamdan Al Ismaili, Executive President of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The event was held as part of national efforts aimed at enhancing technical capabilities and cybersecurity across vital sectors in the Sultanate of Oman, supporting digital transformation pathways, and developing innovative solutions to protect data and digital infrastructure.

The hackathon witnessed the participation of a distinguished group of cybersecurity experts, innovators, entrepreneurs, and startups. It aimed to attract creative minds and empower them to develop practical and sustainable solutions that contribute to addressing the growing cybersecurity challenges in the telecommunications sector, while supporting technology localization and the development of market-ready products and services, thereby contributing to the creation of sustainable economic opportunities.

National Partnership

In his address, Eng. Badar bin Ali Al Salhi, Director General of the National Cybersecurity Center, affirmed that the Hadatha Sectoral Hackathon represents a model of national partnership that brings together government entities and local telecommunications companies, reflecting a shared commitment to protecting one of the most vital sectors and strengthening the cybersecurity industry in the Sultanate of Oman. He added that the hackathon witnessed strong interest, with 142 participants registered across 46 teams, of which 20 teams qualified for the advanced stages and participated in today’s hackathon, reflecting the richness of ideas, the diversity of backgrounds, and the strong presence of national talent in the cybersecurity innovation pathway for the telecommunications sector.

Empowering Cybersecurity Innovation

He highlighted that the importance of these sector-specific hackathons lies in their role as a practical platform for linking innovation with the needs of the telecommunications sector, building bridges of integration between regulatory entities and specialists, and engaging national competencies in developing cybersecurity solutions derived from real-world challenges. These challenges include digital fraud, subscriber data protection, and threats related to networks and smart devices, the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, 5G

The winners of the hackathon

The "Sectoral Modernization" hackathon resulted in the recognition of several participating teams for their innovative ideas. The OmniX team secured the first place, consisting of Mr. Mujahid bin Muhammad Al-Suwati, Mr. Yaqzan bin Badr Al-Rahbi, and Ms. Zwan bint Muhammad Al-Saadiya. The Fraud Hunters team came in second place, with Mr. Muhammad bin Hassan bin Ali Al-Siyabi and Mr. Mishal bin Ibrahim bin Saif Al-Maamari. The Rich Men team achieved third place, comprising Mr. Muhammad bin Yaqub bin Said Al-Rahbi, Mr. Majid bin Muhammad bin Nasser Al-Maskari, and Mr. Haza'a bin Zahir Al-Ghanimi.
