Digital Transformation

 The Metaverse Workshop is a practical initiative implemented in collaboration with the Executive Team for Institutional Digital Transformation and the Communication and Media Department. It aims to develop the ministry's current model in the field of the metaverse by leveraging the expertise of the community and specialists.The workshop focusses on transforming ideas into innovative digital projects that support the achievement of the National Digital Economy Strategy's objectives and contribute to establishing Oman's digital position both locally and globally, by building a comprehensive national vision for metaverse applications in the fields of government services, education, tourism, transportation, and other promising sectors.

Consultation objectives:

  • Involving the community in decision-making and developing digital services through participatory sessions and workshops.
  • Leveraging community expertise to develop the current metaverse model and transform it from a theoretical idea into an innovative practical model.
  • Deepening the technical and strategic understanding of metaverse technologies among participants, ensuring the integration of technical, economic, and social aspects.
  • Formulating a clear national vision and strategy for developing the metaverse to serve the national goals of the digital economy.
  • Establishing a sustainable advisory base of experts and specialists to support the ministry's future projects.

Consultation duration: The workshop was held on September 10, 2025, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, and lasted for one intensive day that included presentations, group discussions, and brainstorming sessions, with wide participation from various sectors.

Consultation results: The digital transformation team from the ministry participated in the workshop, and the final list included 25 participants out of more than 50 registrants. These included university students, employees from both the public and private sectors, entrepreneurs, representatives from security and military agencies, digital transformation ambassadors from various governorates of the Sultanate, as well as job seekers and retirees.

The episode resulted in strategic proposals and ideas, and executive recommendations were formulated, representing the main outputs of the episode, the most notable of which are:
1. Restructuring and developing the ministry's metaverse to provide a comprehensive and engaging user experience that goes beyond traditional models.
2. Preparing a comprehensive national strategy for the metaverse that coordinates sectoral efforts and establishes unified technical standards.
3. Activating strategic partnerships with the private sector and academic institutions, and establishing a permanent advisory council.
4. Focussing on projects with quick returns, such as training platforms and virtual government services.
5. Building national capacities in metaverse technologies and creating a specialised innovation incubator and sustainable training programs.
